My cousin had a similar problem with hers being extremely irregular too. Her doctor put her on the pill and it regulated everything nicely. If you are having sex, obviously pregnancy can not be ruled out completely. It is scary but you could be going through an early menopause. I would have a gyno check you out to make sure that everything is normal and healthy, and if so, get on the pill and it should iron everything out for you!

If you just started within the past 2 years then it's going to be that irregular, it's actually normal for it not to be normal. I had the same thing when I first started, Some months it would come like 3 days early some 12 days late, some right on time. Okay, if you faven't had sex where the man's private go's up your private you aren't pregnant, when I would be late I wondered that too. But then I found out how you do and realized it's not even possible. Stay away from sexual intercourse untill you are married, that's what I did and I am glad I did. My husband and I both waited. You should to. For the next two years your period will be irregular and it will just get more and more regular from there. Plan it for every 28 days, put a pad or whatever on, even if it isn't there yet, you will be prepared and prevent the embarrasing blood stain in the underwear. I did that and never ruined any underwear. I would be sitting while it was late and I would feel like it just started and would go to the restroom and check and there it was, but my underwear was clean, once it becomes regular after 2 years you will know when it comes. Periods only get easier so hang in there! : )

You aren't supposed to think that you are pregnant, it is quite common to have irregular periods. However, it does make it a bit more worrying for you because it is stressful to not know when your period is coming, so of course you may be worried about being pregnant all the time!

The best thing to do, to settle your mind would be to go out and get a pregnancy test, or 5 (to keep around, I had the same problem, I only got my period every 2 or 3 months all through high school and university from poor eating habits and lack of exercise, so I kept a few pregnancy tests on hand to ease my mind!)

Plus if you're buying a few at a time, it isn't so embarrassing because often the sales clerk will assume you are playing a joke on someone and not suspect that you may be pregnant (I'm assuming that your worried about that because you haven't mentioned taking a pregnancy test in any of your questions!).

You don't say how old you are but, if you are just a "newbie" at this, and you are sexually active you need to be aware of a couple of things. First of all, everyone is like you and at the same time, we're all different. What does your doc say? If you've been having periods for two or more years, then this is not that uncommon either. You could have some ovarian problems which your obgyn should know about if you see her/him regular. You're irregular periods could be caused by so many things they can't be listed. Your doc should be watching you however. Okay, you miss a couple of months, that could be regular for you. Sexually active? Keep a supply of pregnancy tests on hand. Always, always, keep a diary of your periods and sexual activity. Have you been checked for polyps? (i think I'm spelling that right) Not necessarily cancerous but problematic with your periods. Like I said, it could be anything. Get on a regular schedule with your obgyn and keep that diary! Good luck!

If you are in your early teens, then your period is just adapting to a pattern. A few months to a year into it you will eventually adapt a regular pattern. you may want to ask your mom what her periods were like because chances are it's hereditary (like mother, like daughter). In this case you don't have to worry. I knew girls in high school and college and their periods were totally unpredictable, meaning they missed a month or two here and there. In fact three of my friends who's always had irregular periods have healthy babies. but if you are older, sexually active and your periods are suddenly changing then there could be other factors. I think you should be concerned if your period doesn't show up for 3 months or more in a row unless you're pregnant. I also think that having sex changes your arrival time of the period especially if you orgasm. let's say that last month your period started on the 23, and because of orgasms from sexual activity your period may start a few days sooner or later the following month, or it may not come all together.
