Need to replace the entire bath tub faucet and shower head and remove tile to do it?

Question

What is the easiest most cost efficient way for someone with no home improvement experience to do it? Since the spigots are wasting away, we will have to cut pipe to replace them. Could someone give me some simple steps? I have searched the net and found tidbits here and there, but nothing with good enough detail, such as a list of items I would need.

Sorry 'pros' but 50 to 100 dollars an hour is a little steep for me. I have seen it done on DIY/HGTV, I just can't find information on the tools/hardware I need. I have also seen kits to cover up the new hole. That is the kind of information I'm looking for.

cut a hole in the wall behind the tub or your asking for trouble doing it from the front is no easy task even for me and I been doing this forever. I suggest buying new valves and seats and new trim for what is there before you cost youself 3-500 having a "pro" come fix your mistakes.

If you have no DIY experience, this is not a job to start with. You will have to deal with the supply pipes and the shower pipe. Those require some plumbing skills.

Just mounting the new faucet will require carpentry skills and some creative ideas. If it was new construction, it would be easy to build it for the new faucet, you have to start with what is already there and adapt it.

Getting to it will be a huge challenge. You will probably have to remove some, it not many tiles. If they are ceramic tiles, that is sometimes difficult to work with. Any tiles will break. Can you get exact match replacements?

There is probably water damage behind the old faucet. That will have to be repaired. It is not just plain drywall, but is probably cement board. That is much harder to work with. You might need to cut out a fairly large section that is damaged, that is common.

Each of the tasks take special tools and skills. Some of the tools are specifically for the particular materials you will be working with.

Working with old pipes can be very difficult. They are often weak and will break or leak or plug easily. That is something that I see all the time. Fastening the new ones to the old ones can be difficult, depending on what they are made of. There likely will be damage in other areas too, as you proceed.

Sorry to sound negative, but this is too big of a deal to start with. Some will tell you that it is easy. In theory, it is. In practice, it is often quite difficult for DIY.

the people at home depot are very helpful. yes, you will have to replace the tile. we remodeled one of our bathrooms a couple years ago-the people at home depot were very helpful with what we would need. our bathroom turned out great.

let a pro do it then you r going to have it done rite if u do it yourself if something goes wrong u are screwed if u pay to have it done they have to come back and make it right always use a pro
