If you want to buy a new, better, simfree mobile phone in the UK, it will cost you a fortune. But if you can afford it, try carphonewarehouse.
But i recomennd buying a contract phone on O2. buy a cheap off peak package or something for £20-£25 a month. O2 phones aren't locked to the network so you can use any sim with it. And having those free minutes and texts will always come in quite handy.
In websites like carphonewarehouse, www.e2save.com you will also be able to find 'cash back' contracts. So the phone will be yours for a very cheap price in the end.
If interested try this site as well http://www.niftylist.com/

You need to ask for a phone that's "simfree" generally speaking these are much more expensive then contract or pay as you go phones. What I do is just buy a new pay as you go phone with my preferred provider and just put my existing sim card in. You are not obliged to use or register the sim that comes with a pay as you go phone. Carphonewarehouse often sell phones which are unlocked ie they are not locked to any specific provider. They do not advertise this but I have experienced it myself. You just ask them in the shop if you can test your current sim card in it before they sell it to you. They want the sale so are usually quite obliging.

Go to a phone shop that deals with your current provider and get an upgrade - that is, a new phone with X amount of free credit or X amount of minutes/txts, with your current sim card in it.

depends..some will let you upgrade after so many months. this is generally the better option. or if you can afford it buy the phone you want as PAYG on the same network then you can use that phone and have a spare sim card shuld you ever need it!to buy an empy phone completely you can pay £100s.

Carphone Warehouse sell Sim-Free phones, but they are very expensive, some £400+. To be honest, I would recommend Ebay as being your best bet, you do get some good deals on there every so often but they're always hammered with bids so it's difficult to predict which one will get you a good price.
