There should be special graffiti walls for those who want to 'express themselves'. Otherwise, it's a bloody eye-sore. And they can be criminally charged - if caught.

My response to "Graffiti" is probably going to get intense, and go off the wall, - but it might just make people think, or give you all a good laugh, - at least I get a chance to vent - and for that I thank you very much, in advance!
I am somewhat ambevalent about graffiti - but only up to a point. I have seen the work of some very talented inner city taggers, and I believe that they have developed a legitimate and beautiful artform that may have it's roots in cave art, but I believe it to be a truly american artform emerging out of the flower-power generation of the 60's in it's last reincarnation, and evolving for the last 40 years from socio-political comentary, to gang sign turf markers, to ethnic murals, and then to the individual expression and signature art we see today.
As long as the tagger's confine their masterpieces to the canvases of the shells of abandoned buildings, and the surfaces of other structures and vehicles where they have written permission to perform their work, - then I am cool with that.
But what really p-sses me off is when these artists step over the line and start practicing their craft on private and public property. It's this arrogance, this total disregard for other people's rights, and lack of respect for the Public at large that really gets me hopping mad! People work hard to buy and maintain their homes, property, and business, and here comes some spoiled brat with no regard or respect for anyone or anything other than himself, and proceeds to defile what someone else has worked so hard for. Is it any wonder that tagger's have been beaten to death by baseball bat weilding property owners, - after being warned off time & time again?
Then comes the group of dangerous idiots that I hate the most - the Gang Banger taggers that go around with spray paint and these huge magic markers and "mark their Territory" with their "Sign". In this case the graffiti that they leave behind is just like an animals spore. They do it everywhere, - like an animal marks it's territory with urine, and as soon as you paint it over, or scrub it off, they are back again to re-mark it.
Who in the hell do these little Sh-ts think they are anyway? Most of them have never held a job outside of prison, paid taxes, owned any property, or contributed in anyway to the community other than to sell drugs, take part in drive by shootings, robbberies, break-ins, home invasions, homicides, rapes, - pick a crime and they're likely involved.
THEIR TURF?? - MY A$$!!! These little tatoo'd drop outs - AND their sluts ought to be shot on sight - no questions asked. As far as I am concerned they should be lumped in with al of the other Terrorists that are out to destoy America - and yet there they are - openly operating drug mills, dealing guns, murder for hire, - etc. Graffiti is just thier spore. They pose a Clear and Present Danger to Society - so why isn't the Office of Homeland Protection rounding these jokers up, and dumping them in a hole somewhere, and covering up the hole? Well, now I feel all better, Than ks for the use of the soap box. Good luck.
I'm pulling for you.

If you are doing it on someone else's property without permission from the owner it is a crime. Why don't they buy their own buildings to do graffiti on?

Destruction of property unless you own the property. Rude and expensive to clean up.

If the person owns the property it is expression. If the person does not own it is a crime which should receive the death penalty.
Just kidding about the death penalty.... sort of!
