You need to upgrade to a USB 2.0 drive. You can buy PCI cards with two to four USB 2.0 slots on them in most electronics stores for about $10 - $20. However, please note that this is hardware, and you will need to open up your computer to install it on to an open PCI slot on your motherboard.

Get a USB 2.0 PCI card they run around $15-$20 and they are very easy to install in your PCI slot inside you computer tower....This will help you by adding more USB ports to your computer aswell. Most USB cards are 2-4 ports...Thanks

Buy an expansion card. They go for under 30$
and give you 4 or more ports. Although it means
you have to open your computer and plug it in.
If you don't know how that's done you might want
to ask someone who does. It's not difficult but it's
possible to "break stuff".

first, try some different ports on the back of your computer, they may be high speed.
If you've tried all the ports and they are only 1.1, then you will have to buy a PCI card with USB2.0 built in, and they are readliy available at any popular PC store.
Easy to install, and if needed, install drivers, and now you can use your DVD recorder at high speed.
