Every time i answer any sort of question and i mention diversity being a good thing, my answer gets a coupld thumbs down. Does this mean people either don't like diversity or they are afraid of it?

And I am NOT talking about illegal immigration here because I don't want to start that debate. I just want to know about diversity. Thanks

Diversity is a good thing, I will get thumbs down with this answer but it is from true bigots so I don't mind. Without diversity we would never have been as great a country as we are, without the German rocket scientist, the black farmer, and the values of the British, ect. We would just be a spot on the map instead of the greatest country on earth.

Answerman is right. Diversity has provided us the greatest minds and built this great country. The problem isn't diversity, it is multiculturalism, where group rights supersede individual rights. There are people that think that diversity means people don't need to assimilate into American culture, which is ironically a mixture of many different cultures. But when people refuse to recognize that they should be a proud to be a new American, rather than a person that come from another country that lives in America, that is the sad part. In short, people should celebrate their new citizenship first, and their cultural identity of the country of origin second.

Diversity is fine when its naturally occurring. People have problems with forced diversity that discriminates against the majority and panders to the minority... Laws like Affirmative Action that allow a less qualified person to get a job or college entry over a more qualified person just because of the color of their skin cause more problems than they fix... It makes people think things like "oh, he only got the job cuz he's black" and fuels racism. The thing is that there is no need for it... Our country is full of qualified minorities that could succeed on their own if they work hard enough, just as the majority has to do to succeed in life.. Giving them an unfair advantage is not the way to fix the problems...

I think that people do not like diversity, first of all, because it is enforced (e.g. through affirmative action), while such things should happen naturally. Also, most people are conservative (in some general sense of this word - I do not mean conservative republicans here) and are used to a certain way of life, so they feel threatened by the changes that may result from mixing different cultures.

Diversity is good as long as it doesn't require preference. We have enough diversity in everything now without laws requiring that we accept minorities of every type before the person best suited. Be it employment, education, or immigration.

I don't think people are afraid naturally occurring diversity. People are afraid of being displaced by diversity.
To most people diversity means "political correctness". Who isn't tired of that being shoved down our throats?
Can't America absorb differences without being forced by laws?
Why should we change our culture to appease others?

Political Correctness is destroying our culture.
Look what it's doing to France and their Muslim population.

This country was built on diversity, shame though a few small minded
people don't think so.The world would be a rather boring place if it were
not for all things diverse.People encounter it everyday and don't even
realize it and it certainly makes Yahoo Answers all the more interesting.

I love diversity! I can't imagine a world without different colors, religions and cultures to learn from! I have said before, people fear what they don't understand, so alot of it can be chalked up to ignorance. If people took the time to learn from others and understand, can you imagine how much less violence and intolerance there might be?
