What they mean are Earth tones. If you find the colors in nature in a subdued hue like tans, light browns, golds, (not lames) greens, (not kelly's or lime's) more like forest green tones even some reds that are darker, more like a burgundy than a true red. The color palette is almost that of nature's Fall. Neutral colors are easier to match with patterns and many other colors. Say if you wish to layer they don't contrast they compliment each other. As a foundation a lot can be done by beginning with neutrals in clothing, decorating even make up. Experiment you'll see. Good luck and have fun.

when the talk about neutral colors it means not hot pink and metalic orage they mean browns and cream colors or dark reds or leaf green color. any thing you can find living that is that color
