The CCITT is from the French name, Comite Consultatif International Telegraphique et Telephonique, translates to the Consultative Committee on International Telegraph and Telephone. The CCITT was reorganized in 1993 and took on the name ITU-T, the International Telecommunications Union, Telecommunications sector.
