I know what btw means, obviously, but I'm just curious about all the others that I keep encountering on the Internet.

While other are putting up list, I am going to tell you what they mean.

They mean that a person is to lazy to type the entire phrase!

While these abbreviations may be nice in chat rooms where saving a few key strokes may be important, I have seen them popping up all over the place, notably here.

It sometimes makes things confusing and never impresses anyone outside a chat room or in text messaging.

It comes from text messaging where you have a limited number of letters to send per text. As long as you, the sender and the receiver know what the abbreviations mean it's a doddle.

omfg - same as above...i'm sure you can work out what the F is for...I prefer to translate to Oh my fish girl (long story)

lmao - laughing my **** off

lol - laugh out laugh

brb - be right back

imo - in my opinion

imho - in my humble opinion

pmsl - peeing myself laughing (nicer version, don't think YA will allow me to put the real one...)

rofl - rolling on floor laughing

idk - I don't know

well lets see there's "lol" thats laugh out loud. there's also "bk" thats back, and "brb" thats be right back . Hope it was helpful!
