You don't HAVE to have a wireless connection to use it, you'll just miss out on some of its facilities if you don't. My ancient PDA is non-wireless, but does it's job fine for what I need - I connect by cable to my desktop for synchronisation, for instance.

That's the trouble with sales staff, they're not always technically too bright. It's always possible they thought your hubby knew what he wanted. Having said that, PC World's philosophy is clearly flog it at all costs!

There are three major types of wireless -- WiFi, Bluetooth and cell phone signal. You don't say which one that he MUST have.

I don't think that you MUST have a wireless connection. It GREATLY enhances the operation of that thing if you do have a wireless connection.

A WiFi wireless router costs about $40, so it's not a huge investment. Bluetooth should work with any computer that has an infrared port.

It would help if you said what type of PDA it is. Most PDAs can be plugged into a USB port. It's highly unlikely you have one that can connect to a wireless network but can't connect via USB. Mine connects via USB, Bluetooth and SDIO-WLAN card, and it's a really cheap one.

You may have to buy an additional docking cradle for it. As I don't know what type you have I have to guess, but usually it plugs into the bottom of the PDA and connects it to the computer and recharges the battery through the one socket.

Well, how else would you get online with it??? It's always best to read up on anything you are considering before buying it. Salespeople don't usually know much about anything. They aren't well trained. Educate yourself before buying - that's always the best way!
