No. If we had a national holiday for every Dead president, there would be 38 of them. And Ford only served in office for 2 years.

Just for January 2, 2007. It's a day of mourning, to honor the death of former President Ford. This is a one day holiday, for this year only. There will be no mail service and I think government offices will probably be closed, too.

No, and if it was why would they pick the second? Seriously it would work out fine this year but in general people wouldn't realize the idea was it was for Ford.
To one who said yes ONE YEAR doesn't make it a National Holiday. It is a NATIONAL DAY, which means in 2008 it will be January 2nd same as it was in 2006. Holidays are ANNUAL events, not one time so to the ones who specified this coming year fine but in gneral NO it isn't.

Yes, The college that I attend announced yesterday that President Bush declared January 2nd a national day of morning in honor of President Ford, our campus is closed on that day for a national day of morning.

January 2, 2007 is a national day of mourning for President Ford. It's just for this year, though.

No..Bush declared it a national day of mourning, asking people to gather in places of worship to honor Ford's memory...but YES it is a holiday on the Navajo Nation...Ford is remembered by Native people for signing the Indian self-determination Act of 1975 and the Indian Health Care Improvement Act...
