Freya Aswynn has a good book on the Elder Futhark runes.
It's called Northern Mysteries and Magick.
She also has a website that your people may want to check out.

dont know much about them but no that they are from the older witchcraft religion.i think it is the Germanic tradition.although they are very useful with them they give a definate divination source for the soul.unlike tarot cards the runes help develop the spirit of one's soul to help communicate with the afterlife.

I once went out with a girl that was into some kind of Viking stuff. She said the peace sign was from a Nordic rune that meant death. Who knows?

I don't believe in magic myself, but I do have a book on runes. There are many books available. The ancient vikings used them for divining purposes, and also as a system of writing before they adopted the Latin alphabet. There are numerous inscriptions written in the runic alphabet.
