CHRIST ALMIGHTY! no one knows what communism is!
Idiots. "communism" was the name given to the dictatorship of the proletariat established by lenin and furthered by stalin.
It was never given a chance to evolve to the later stages of marxism which is i belive one of the most blissful utopian ideals other than anarchism.
Ok, so now we have established that "communism" wasn't really what it should have been and was really just left-wing fascism.
Big brother has nothing to do with marxist ideals, it was Orwell's invention due to his disgust at the misinterpretation and abuse of marxism. The Russian purges and secret police were exactly the same as the nazi control of germany, in that the state was controlling the masses. In true marxism the masses govern themselves.
Britain has always had a mix of democratic socialism and conservatism, it could have gone further left and been a brilliant socialist country, we apparently over threw our monarch hundreds of years ago so the need for a totalitarian leader like the Tsars is slightly less obvious in Britain.
I personally don't feel that the oppression of the workers was as strong in Britain as the gradual establishment of the welfare state etc would satiate the class conflict slightly. with guidance Britain could have turned more and more left wing democratically and gradually unlike Russia which was violently thrown into it leaving a vacuum of power which led to the corrupt communist state being established.
Personally i feel a socialist and democratic state is the fairest, most effective and utopian state we could establish and perhaps it was possible. I would argue that Britain should have gone socialist but not communist as Russia did.
Oh any one else interested in politics/history/Russia please answer the question im about to post!
Plus Cuba is actually one of the best countries in the world

If the entire world was communist and it was done in a regulated, non-oppressive way it would work. The leaders of communist states have proven in history to be nothing less than dictators only after their own interests. Marxism would work only if this didn't happen and there was a large open governing body, rather than a closed elite one.
In theory it is so much more benificial for your average citizen than capitalism. Capitalism just creates a huge gap between the haves and have nots, and as we can see now has it pretty much developed into a corrupt military-industrial complex ruled by large faceless corporations. Where wars are waged not to settle differences or achieve anthing, other than to make more money for these companies and leave the innocent people raped, poor and homeless.
I honestly don't think the world was ready or enlightened enough to handle communism, so the virtues of the ideal didn't shine through (governments were corrupt then and they are corrupt now). Perhaps in the future when the people all join together to say "enough is enough!" with these corrupt leaders.... I wonder if one day the dream Marx had of a utopian society based on equality and fairness will take.

There are too many variables in the equation to say whether or not communism (with a small "c") would have worked in Britain alone. Marx envisaged that a communist revolution would be international. History would seem to show that communism fails when tried in the context of the nation state. The Soviet Union under Stalinist rule used Marxism as a justification for its own imperialist ambitions not as a vehicle for the emancipation of the oppressed.

that question shows an entire fake impact of communism (that's comprehensible because of the fact the only examples we've seen are the Soviet Union, China, and Cuba). yet Communism is the furthest you may get from what usa is threatening to alter into. Communism is meant to be an entire loss of government, and extra basically the staff assisting one yet another to the suited of their potential. we are headed for Facism (that's what the Soviet Union, China, and Cuba truly are), the place each and every thing is controlled by potential of a unmarried chief (or interior the case we are headed to, 2 leaders--Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld--working at the back of a figurehead--George Bush). yet specific, we are headed for a whole loss of freedom and intensely quickly. examine the e book 1984 and notice in case you do no longer see the start of the comparable concern.

Well, we have a left wing totalitarian government. So, we are more than half way there. I simply can't believe that there are people living on the planet that still think that Communism can succeed. When will it be finally put to bed? I notice that the lefties have come out to vote in force.

Doubtless someone will correct me but I believe that Communism has a 100% failure rate. Don't refer to the short period of sauces in the Soviet Union as I do not believe that Marx envisaged Party officials travelling in ZIL limousines and owning palacial dachas while much of the country starved.

Take a look at Russia my friend. Your answer is there in front of your very eyes.
If you can't see it, take a look at China and if you're still blinded by the red flags, take a really long, long look at Cuba! Why do you think thousands drown trying to get to American shores every week?

Marxism doesn't work.
Socialism can on the other hand, if organised properly.
Capitalism is a load of crap. It promotes greed, selfishness, lack of concern for others, all the things that as decent civillised human beings we should be trying to overcome.
