To be able to get dsl there has to be a free IP in the area the phone company sometimes runs out and has to free some up or create new ones this is a slow process that may take time if u demand them to make one it might take over a year for them to make one, but that´s about the only reason why u coulden´t have internet and yur neighbors do.

Hey Dude,

What are they telling you? DSL is really a matter of distance. It is very distance sensitive. The last time I checked it was 18000 feet of wire between the user and the CO, central office). If your neighbors are 17999 and you are 18020, they can get it and you can't. Them the breaks!

Now, why don't you just cut a deal with your neighbors to use their wireless network, if they have one? If they don't, offer to buy them a good wireless router for use of their bandwidth! Even offer to bake them cookies or something.

In the "Old Days" we use to run wires from neighbor to neighbor, sharing the LAN and playing games. I am not sure this was totally legal, but it was sure fun!

Tom

EL above might be onto something, however, I have never heard of it before, since many of these companies can use internal addresses.

Because those AT&T people are so darned customer oriented. They are keeping you from getting involved in their poor quality DSL and that is doing you a favor.

It is possible although not very likely.
You can always ask for the reason. The mosts likely
in your case are a bad line and no more free ports
on the multiplexer.

Why do you think you can't get it? If the phone company told you that, I would try again. If they tested your lines and told you that, your home wiring might have too much noise on it, but I think the phone company could help you out with that.
