Why dont you get one made, its inexpensive, and it will be easier to search for a picture or pattern. Any proffesional seamstress would be able to make one up , no problem. Its worth a thought anyway.

it impossible to find 40s/50s style suit in the UK and the only place i can find them is in the US

Try a day trip to London - Butler & Wilson on Fulham Road, Chelsea; Vintage Modes on Bond Street or Camden market.

Check your local listings for consignment shops and secondhand stores, heck, depending on where you live you might find a vintage clothing store. If you were looking for the name of a shop I got nothin' good luck.

Charity shop. Plenty of them on every high street. And many of them can call in goods from other shops, if they know what you're looking for.

You could try charity shops if you don't mind wearing second hand,or an antique and collectors fair
