Tradition is different for each family, this is what "tradition" is all about, making your own family traditions that are handed down to your children; or they may choose to start some of their own...but chances are, they will continue with what they grew up with. Years ago, I started a tradition of serving horderve's and finger foods for Christmas Eve. My kids are now all adults (my youngest is 17) and they love this tradition. I use to do this for New Year's Eve as well, but no longer do, as now that my kids are older, they aren't usually at home, and I spend the evening in alone (which is absolutely fine). The point is, ask your family what they would like you to serve, and then perhaps this can be your tradition! Happy New Year!

Number 1 on your dinner menu must be black eyed peas - for luck. You must eat at least 1 spoonful of them - the more you eat, the more good luck you are supposed to have (so, I usually eat 3 or 4 bowls of them that day)! We actually eat them just after midnight on New Year's Day! It's supposed to be the right way to bring in the new year! The other things we have for dinner are a huge pork roast with gravy, mashed potatoes with gravy, the black eyed peas and hot homemade bread with lots of butter. For dessert, we usually have peach cobbler and banana split cake. Happy New Year to you and your family!
