The birth of Madonna, Bill Gates, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and John F. Kennedy were major events, I think. The fall of the Berlin wall, the re-organization of Russia into more countries, the invention of the PC and internet, the first man stepping on the moon, the publication of works by Karl Marx, Sigmund Freud, James Joyce, and Virginia Woolf were pretty major events too.
