Any old Mel Brooks movie could beat newcomers Liar, Liar or 40-Year-Old Virgin hands down, but I'm not so sure about the also-moldy-oldy Monty Python and the Holy Grail. That was a really funny movie.

However, I believe that O Brother Where Art Thou? is the funniest and will become a classic. It's by the Coen brothers, starring George Clooney, with an awesome supporting cast. The story is actually a retelling of Homer's Odyssey set during the Great Depression. Clooney's character escapes from a chain gang with two others chained to him in order to get to his wife before she remarries. Of course, that isn't what he tells his co-escapees. You'll love it! For old-timey music fans of bluegrass, there is a wonderful soundtrack.

Blazing Saddles was one of Mel Brooks best. Monty Python and the Holy Grail was also good but of a different gengre, typical Python English humor.
The plot. The citizens of Rock Ridge are being terrorized by a gang organized by Hedley Lemarr to get the land the town is on. He hires a black sherriff to offend the towns people but becomes a hero.Python goes on a trek with make believe horses to find the grail and meet various funny adventures on the way.

Monty Python and Blazing Saddles are right up there together. Python humor is a bit out there, some stuff you have to pay attention to catch - like weird things going on in the background. Blazing Saddles is more straightforward.

Can't go wrong with 40 Year Old Virgin either. Steve Carrel is just so nice and earnest, he's great for that role.

Hmmm. Out of them all, you really can't beat "The Holy Grail" . . . it's famous for a reason! It's just funny, zany comedy. I think out of all that you listed, "Liar Liar" is probably the best funny one that has a real plot- "The Holy Grail" and "History of the World" have them, but they're sort of set-ups for jokes, whereas "Liar Liar" and "40 Year Old Virgin" have real story lines. But while it was moderately funny, I didn't care that much for "Virgin"- "Liar Liar" is much better. The pen is blue! Jim Carrey is just freakin' funny, doing his thing with sarcastic wit and hilarious facial expressions.
