Hey Dude,
Okay, the answer you got above is correct, but I think you were looking for more info on how to get it and set it.
First thing, by default, manufacturers set a really generic SSID. It has to have one to function. You need to open a web browser and go into the router configuration. You will probably need a username and password. All of this is spelled out in your readme for the wireless router/access point you have.
Now, you can set this SSID to anything you wish, or just leave it. It doesn't matter to anything but you. Mine is something I will remember. Also, be sure to turn off SSID broadcasting. When it broadcasts its SSID it lets everyone know that "HEY I AM HERE, COME GET ME!"
Now, write down that SSID and right click on the wireless device in your control panel. Choose "Properties." In there, goto the adaptor settings and then put in the SSID.
If you want, here is where you can set WEP, WPA, and all types of security stuff.
Good Luck.
Tom

The best way is to open up the router manual and enter the internal IP address of the router (by default the factory setting is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1). Type that into your internet explorer toolbar. Then enter your admin username/password that you used when you first installed the network. The default username is "admin." The default password is jus blank. Now once you enter into the settings pages, look for SSID under the wireless setting sections. it should give you the SSID.

The SSID, or Service Set Identification, is simply the network name. This, assumedly, you set yourself. Otherwise, you can find it by either accessing your router's setup page (different for each brand of router, though usually accessed by typing "192.168.1.1" into a browser of a computer connected to its network). However, to access setup, you will have to have the network's access name and password. By default, the username is usually "admin" and the password is "password". You can check the manual that came with your router for more detailed information (including exact address, default username, and default password) on accessing your router's setup.
You can also view the network's SSID simply by checking the network name of the network you're connected to on your computer.
The default SSID, if you have not changed it, varies from rotuer to router. Normally, though, it's either your brand name ("linksys", "netgear", etc.) or something generic ("default", "wireless", "network", etc.).

The SSID is found in the Setup screen. It is also called the Network ID. You can read about it at:
