I purchased a detector at Walmart for $45.00 and it works great. I do realize it's limitations though and if I did a lot of traveling I would spend the $300.00 for the Valentine. Car & Driver rated it as the top radar detector money can buy and the closest thing to diplomatic immunity you can have.

The only ones are Escort 8500 and Valentine1. All others are just noise makers. Money well spent either will really work well.
