It means double spacing between lines. If you are using Word, the easiest way to do it is to select the whole text and then go to Format>Paragraph. In the area under spacing, select double for line spacing and then click OK.

Everything then on should be double spaced too!

When you are writing a report and the instructor requests that it be double spaced there must be a blank line between lines of the text. Instructors usually ask for this because it allows them space to write in corrections and suggestions. Also, they might request this format because if they have a large number of documents to read and mark, and it can be quite strenuous on the eyes to read through mass quantities of documents if the text of these documents are close together. The latter reason is why my instructor insists on having all assignments that I pass in being double spaced. I have noticed that several other answers to this question have said that double spacing a document means that you must press the space bar twice between words and sentences, this is incorrect. That spacing practice is part of writing a document in MLA format, but not a double spaced document. Also, other answerers have instructed you to press enter after every line of text, this is both an annoying and unpractical practice. Personally, I find that it is easiest to change the setting to double spaced in my word processor, this way I don't have to worry about it.

In Microsoft Word you can change the setting to double spaced by clicking the "Format" drop-down menu, then selecting "Paragraph", then on the "Indents and Spacing" tab of this menu, look at the "Spacing" section of the menu, change the "Line spacing" setting to "Double" and then you are done. All you have to do is type the document, and MS Word will do all of the spacing that goes along with this type of document. Or, if you are using a different word processor, such as WordPerfect, select MS Word mode when you start your document and follow the same steps as listed above. (Note that the names of the menus and sections may change slightly, but they still mean the same thing.)

on your word processor, type up your report. good paragraph form and structure. then when the piece is written save it! then edit the way it looks. select the whole thing go under (in microsoft works) format-paragraph then spacing and drop down to double. viola! the report is now double spaced. the reason teachers like double spaced is because there is room between the lines to write questions or comments on the paper. there are two empty lines between each line of words. For someone who isn't a professional writer, i recommend MS Works over Word office. Word has a lot more features, but works is easier to use. however when you save the paper, save as: "rich text format" then it is able to be opened under any word processing program. also buy a "thumb drive" and back up your work a second time on it, so when your computer crashes, you have a copy.

Basically double-spaced means that there is room between each line of the paragraph for a teacher to write comments or make additions. You do not have to hit enter twice. In Microsoft word, just go to Format, then Font, click the Character spacing tab and select double-space

If you're using Microsoft Word:
Go to the Format menu then open up the Paragraph box.
On the Indents and Spacing tab, go down to the Spacing section. Select Double in the Line Spacing drop-down menu.

OR, after typing, you can select all the text and right-click to access the Paragraph menu.

Presto! No need to hit the enter key twice after each line!

Don't double space it

It means to put an extra blank space between each line of words. The easiest way to do this on Microsoft Word is to go under format, click on paragraph, and under the line spacing drop-down menu, press double, then hit ok. If that doesn't work, you can always press enter twice after you reach the end of a line. Hope my info helped!

There should be a blank line between each typed/written line

such as doing this. I've worked in an office and written many

reports that are double spaced. Are you getting the idea?

Good luck on that report !!!

Don't press enter at the end of every line!! In MS Word go to Paragraph Formatting and in the drop-down box for line spacing select "Double Space". Easy as pie.

Double-spaced means that there are two spaces in between

each sentence on the page, like I'm doing here. It makes it

easier to read. Didn't you learn this in High School?
