I'm quitting smoking tomorrow... I light my last one at a quarter to midnight and not another one will pass my lips after midnight... not one in 2007... that's my intention anyway!

I'm seriously sick of a sarcastic non-smoking 'friend' who constantly lectures, hectores and nags... not for my health, but in judgement on me, because she's perfect... so I've ended the friendship without telling her my plan was already in action.

It's 'constructive encouragement' I need right now, not snide remarks like "about time too" "you'll never do it" "think of the cost" "it smells" "it's anti-social" etc.

I've planned the quit day for three months and know it works this way, because I did it all before, but sadly, life events that really hurt, set me off again, after six years clean.

I worried about telling another friend, because she smokes a lot, didn't want her to feel I'm in judgement on her, that it would affect our friendship.

Guess what?

She's quitting with me:-)

Wow, thanks for answering so fast... yes, I've got a plan, an indoor exercise bike my fitness ex army brother is giving me, the outdoor bike I bought myself for Christmas to use in spring and summer, doubling up the dog walk time and distance, and I'm seriously stripping the joint and spring cleaning everything, to get rid of the baccy smells. Carpets, curtains, woodwork and walls, will get the treatment.

I only smoked in the kitchen this year, because I failed last year... when that 'friend' kept telling me I would... so that's the only place it smells of ciggies, but I'm doing the whole lot anyway.

I stopped taking cigarettes out with me, I also quit in my car last January... got them away from my computer table too, and with only the kitchen left to avoid... the plan is... avoidance of the room without work nesessary in there, and decidedly, no in between meals.

I mean to keep my weight in check:-)

.Zyban can help you big time.. it was the only stop smoking product that would work for me.. I tried them all! It is even super cheap compared to those darn cancer sticks. You can buy them online at RemedyMeds.Com. You do not even need a prior prescription! they are Licensed and Located in the USA, so order with confidence.. Are you still not smoking for 5 days! good luck dear, KNOW you can do this!

I wish you all the luck in the world, but remember if you do have another cigarette you are not a failure, you are a very brave person admitting you want to stop but have had a minor set back.

If you do have a cigarette then fine, nothing you can do about it, but don't beat yourself up about it, just think that I will go the next 24 hours without a cigarette - and the next 24 hours start the very next minute.

I used to smoke almost 40 a day and once I tried to stop I switched to menthol ones when I was desperate - they really helped me

For the first couple of months try occupying your hands, eg jigsaws, computers, embroidery - absolutely anything that needs 2 hands. Try going places where smoking is totally banned and leave cigarettes at home - don't have them in your bag 'just in case'

I calculated how much I spent daily on cigarettes and every day I didnt smoke I put that money away - as the money started to mount up it when I wanted a quick smoke I thought about my little nest egg and how near a holiday was - and guess where my first luxury weekend was to - yep you're right I went up to the smoke (ie London)

Wishing you and your friend every sucess - you can do it, post a message on New Years Eve 2007 telling us all that you did it

I ABSOLUTELY reccommend this book, its by Allen Carr.
I am not a smoker myself, but my dad was, last new year he gave up smoking and read this book, and he said it was one of the best ways of giving up smoking without having to use those nicotine patches.
He said that he still get those pangs now and again, but thats only because he smoked since he was 12 and so his body is slightly dependant on the ol' ciggie, but i tell you what, he hasn't touched one since new year's. That's how effective it is.

And its even better that you both are gunna do this because that means you can encourage each other and any struggles you have along the way, she can help you get back onto to course, and vice versa.

you CAN do this!

Good luck - sounds like you've thought it through well - so you stand a good chance of succeeding.
Remember, you did it before so you can do it again.
Have you thought of a strategy to have in place if life gets stressful and hurting again like it did before? Just a thought! If you plan for hiccups then you stand a better chance of overcoming them.
once again - good luck
