Literally: If I was Saddam, I'd do exactly what Saddam did. I'd be him, right?
If I was ME about to be hanged and there was no way out, I think I'd be at peace with it. The great unknown is the time and manner of one's death. Once you know that, what's left to be scared of?

If I were Saddam, I would be thinking about all of the things I had done to get to this point. After all, Saddam did believe that he was doing the work of his god. He might have been envisioning what Heaven would be like and what it would feel like to be in the presensce of his god. All dictators do what they do for a reason. This, I believe, was Saddam's. With his job finished, all he had to do was wait for the job to be finished so he could go where he belonged.
He's a crazy guy, but I think that this is what was probably going through his mind. After his capture, he repeatedly asserted that he had done nothing wrong. According to his twisted understanding of his religion, he was led to believe that what he was doing was the right thing to do. Like I said, crazy, but this is what I think went through his mind.
