There are three periods in a normal hockey game and there is an intermission after each period. So they Play the 1st period then there is an intermission then they play the second and then another intermission then they play the third and if it is tied they go into overtime but they do not get an intermission.

In between each period they resurface the ice, that time is the Intermission. Usually that is after the 20 minute period. Sometimes something major happens, like a pane of the glass gets broke with 30 seconds left of something and so the refs call the intermission early and then they finish the period at the start of the next one. In a game last year I believe Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh was having Blackouts from a generator blowing. So because they weren't sure how long it would take they called an early intermission with like 5 minutes left in the period. So it goes 1st period, Intermission, 2nd Period, Intermission, 3rd Period.

When the players leave the ice...and you see a big thing called a Zamboni...you can bet it's intermission.
Study is right...intermissions are generally 15 minutes. But this isn't a hard and fast rule...some can go over if there is some intermission entertainment or if one coach is really ticked off at the team and giving them an earful.

I agree with SantaBud about when the intermission is, however, the length of an intermission is 15 minutes, not 20.

there are 3 20-minute periods in a hockey game, and there are intermissions between those periods...so basically, 2 intermissions in a game.

There's 3 periods to a hockey game...like there's 4 quarters to a football game. Time in between periods is intermission.

Each of the 3 periods is 20 minutes long (tho they take up more than that in "real" time) and the two intermissions are also 20 minutes long.

The intermissions are the breaks between the three twenty minute periods. Contrary to belief of others, the breaks only last seventeen minutes.

After the first and second period. There's only extra intermissions if it's playoff time.
