I have never heard of Kissing the Maidens Daughter. "Kissing the Gunners Daughter" refers to disciplinary action, where the condemned was tied over a cannon, and lashed for his infraction.

It could be a Greek sailing term referring to the maidens along the shore or to get too close to the rocks.

A son of gun comes from the sailors only space for love making where thy hung their racks between the guns because they were not alowed to go ashore during wartime(British)

Masturbation. Maiden means virgin. Thus no daughter.
