I am 5 weeks pregnant which my first, and I want to know about using chapstick, lip balm and skin lotion. Are these things harmful to the baby? I have had a stuffed up nose and dry skin, chapped lips for a week and I don't want to use anything harmful. Any ideas?

Chapstick, lip balm and skin lotion are all ok to use during pregnancy. The stuffed up nose is a very common pregnancy symptom, it's usually one of the first things I notice when I get pregnant. For me it lasts the whole pregnncy. You might be different. You can see all kinds of great info about pregnancy do's and don'ts if you visit babycenter.com. Schedule a prenatal appointment as soon as possible and bring a list of things to ask your doctor. He can tell you what he feels is safe. Congratulations!

You can use chap stick or lip balm it won't hurt anything. Also skin lotion is a must. Your skin will get dry. The baby takes so much from you that you need to drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated and you need to use lotion to keep your skin hydrated as well. I had a stuffed up nose most of my pregnancy. You might ask your doctor at you next doctors appointment. My doctor let me use Sudafed. But you could use a bit of Vick's vapor rub under your nose at nite to let you breathe better or some of those breath rite strips. They also sell the Vick's plug ins, kind of like a glade plug in, but it has the menthol to help with the stuffies. I tell you something good to get if you haven't gotten it already and that is a copy of the book... "What to expect when your expecting" That was my bible through my pregnancy's. Even by the time i was pregnant with my 3rd child i still went to it for reference. Good luck to you in your pregnancy. And no question is a stupid question when it comes to the safety of you and your child.

Ideally, chapstick and lotions are not harmful to you or a pregnancy (unless they are a medicated) But as I know how exciting and scary a first pregnancy can be, there are natural products that are not animal tested, have no perfumes, or dyes that you can use. You do not have to go through pregnancy dry and chapped.
Your body and features will slowly change and it may be shocking to you at some point, the last thing you want to do is look dry too. Keep you your beauty routines (hair, mails, even a prenatal massages) and enjoy the changes. Good Luck!

first of all there is no such thing as a dumb question
if you dont know you just dont know
i am only 23 and on my second pregnancy i lost my first child in june of this year in my 22nd week.
i a not 22 weeks pregnant and having complications again.
now to answer your questions lotions ans lipbalm are not harmful to the baby. at this time u should try lotioning your skin especially your tummy ans thighs to avoide allot of strech marks.
you will get a few of them but the more lotion you use the better your chances are of less strech marks
go ahead good luck

It might be a little harmful, but you can use it from time to time it wont make a difference. I can tell you what is harmful, eating foods like chips, burgers, fried things, and drinking coffee and juice and maybe other things like colored water isn't`t good to drink. The best thing to drink is water. You can`t take DRUGS!!!!! that is the most important thing you should know. Cut down on television and go out side. you may want to relax all the time. And don`t go to work. Work gives you much pressure and that's not good. Don`t yell and don`t jump and don`t do any crazy exercises or pull-ups and push-ups.

None of that will harm the baby, go ahead & lip balm away. :) I tended to have really chapped lips during my pregnancies.

None of those things will in any way hurt your baby. Use coco butter that's what I did when I was pregnant. It helps with dry skin and reduces stretch marks. You can also get chap-stick with coco butter. Congrats on the baby!!
