Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

I'm a security professional and will be glad to answer your question without any hidden commercials or links to other sites. The simple answer is that there is no "best" adware/spyware remover product -- they all have their pluses and minuses. Assuming that a machine isn't so infected with malware that the best solution is a complete reload (this happens more often than you think!), you should arm yourself with a small number of proven, trusted freeware products. Those would include: AdAware, Spybot32, and a good antivirus scanner (AVG Free is recommended). There are other resources, but be VERY CAREFUL what you download that claims to be a "spyware remover" as many of the lesser-known products are actually spyware themselves! Yes, you can further infect your computer by downloading off-the-mainstream utilities so be very careful. It's a jungle out there! Anyway, it can take many passes with at least two or three programs before your computer is free of malware -- maybe. Why do I say "maybe"? Because a lot of malware is being released onto the Internet every day and none of these programs can fully keep up.
So, here's my final advice: use some tried-and-true utilities and then if everything seems OK (your browser is no longer being redirected, the computer is no longer running slowly, etc. etc.) then don't breathe a sigh of relief but proceed with cautious optimism. Re-scan your computer every few days for viruses and spyware, which allows some time for the vendors' engines to catch up with whatever bugs you might have been bit with. Keep a close eye on your computer's performance -- watch for unusual hard drive or network activity. In the final analysis, the ONLY sure way to rid your computer of the vermin is to erase and reload, and if your computer contains important personal data you might be wise to do this.
Hope this helps.

For your Anti-Adware and Anti-Spyware needs...............
Pick and choose at least 2 anti-spywares from the list below and alternate scanning with them on a regular basis. New spywares are created literally hourly, so no single anti-spyware can really detect all malware. Have at least 2 on hand and alternate scanning with each every few days or so. All are free. All can remove as well as detect.
Spybot Search and Destroy:

Unfortunately, many "paid for" anti-spyware products are in fact either of limited usefulness or downright scams. When in doubt, look at the list of rogue anti-spyware solutions listed here:

I use Spybot, Adaware and Spyware Blaster.
Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.
Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php
Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html
SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.
It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
