I live in Cincinnati and love it. It is a great city and has a lot to offer. The cost of living is relatively cheap compared to other big cities. You can get a nice apartment for around $500/mo. The surrounding neighborhoods are very friendly, especially out in the suburbs. I would stay out of Over-the-Rhine though. It is pretty rough and has a lot of criminal activity around there. The job market is okay. It's not what it used to be, but if you look around, you can find a job pretty easily. We have a ton of schools, hospitals, and big companies that are always hiring. There are a ton of quality preschools around the city and the churches seem pretty nice too.
Overall, I like Cincy. I think it is a fun town. We have great sports teams, cultural events like Octoberfest, Tall Stacks, Taste of Cincinnati, etc., fun museums, downtown, shopping, etc.

Florence, KY is 10 minutes from Cincy, and is a great community. You're close to absolutely EVERYTHING, including the city, and there are entrances to 75 every few miles. There are lots of nice subdivisions with affordable, nice housing. Some of the cities close to Florence that are also very nice are Union, Burlington, Independence, Crestview Hills/Ft. Mitchell/Ft. Wright, among others. Ryle High School in Union is among the best in the state for academics. This is part of the Bible Belt, baby, so any church you need is available in driving distance. Oftentimes, WALKING distance. Little Red School House is an excellent preschool program, but most of the elementary schools offer preschool for qualifying children.
Avoid Over The Rhine. VERY bad neighborhood. Shootings pretty much DAILY, robberies, violence...
I love living here.
If you really want to stay north of the river, Anderson Township is very nice.

I grew up in the Cincinnati area. I would suggest staying on the KY side of the river. Campbell County is an awesome area to live and raise a family. Southgate, Ft. Thomas, Wilder, Cold Spring, and Alexandria... You will find nice, affordable neighborhoods for every financial bracket. Good schools, every kind of church under the sun, and plenty of preschools. Not to mention the taxes are cheaper (except for autos)

All of these towns are within 5 to 15 minutes from downtown Cincinnati.

Depending on your income, I would move to West Chester, Mason, Milford, Dent, etc. Those are the up and coming "nice" neighborhoods but they may be a little pricey. They all have great school systems.
