Don't think it is going to end anytime soon. El Nino is a shift in ocean temperatures and atmospheric conditions in the tropical Pacific that disrupts weather around the world. It is a poorly understood recurrent climatic phenomenon that primarily affects the Pacific coast of South America, but has dramatic impacts on weather patterns all over the world.

The effects of spaceshuttles and rockets ploughing through the air at fantasic rates has got to make an effect somewhere I think they make a difference to the current elninio movements which are scary enough on there own.....when will it cease not in our lifetime...

with all of the forest fires in s america the volcanic action in the indian ocean and the s pacific, the best guess is that its going to be a long time, it takes some time to clear the air of all of that smoke and ash, especially the type in tonga.

It's a cyclic seasonal event. A typical El Niño will last for one to two years.
