India is a secular, democracy which means that all religions are treated equal in the eyes of law--and each person has freedom to follow his own faith.Bharat or Hindusthan would mean it is a Hindu state ---a theocracy like many countries for example that call themselves Islamic republics or have declared Islam as a state religion.I have just read 3 days ago a newspaper article that states that in Saudi Arabia non-muslims cannnot carry out their religious worship and cannot carry their holybooks.Indian politicians who call themselves secularists are worried that their vote banks from the minorities would be lost if they declared Hinduism as the state religion and changed the name to Bharat or Hindusthan
The BJP is the only political party that has Hindutva on its agenda but they out of power---the rest of the political parties dont want to/have the courage to rock the boat.
There is a strange twist to this subject---in the middle ages ---during the pre-Mughal and later Mughal period the country was called Hindusthan-perhaps to emphasise the historical fact that Muslims ruled over Hindus for several centuries.
It was only during the British rule that Hindusthan became India and the Jewel in the ( British )Crown
After Independance in 1947 the country became a sovereign secular democratic republic and remained India and will continue to remain so.

India is a secular democracy, and its population includes the Hindus, who are the majority, Muslims, a very substantial minority, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Christians. Bharat, which the Indian Constitution recognizes as the equivalent of India, would stress the nation's ancient Hindu heritage, for one of its connections is with the famous ancient king Bharat, and Hindusthan (land of the Hindus) would stress the Hindu connection even more closely. India is a more purely geographic term, for it is derived from the Indus (the land watered by the Indus, as it were). Hindu nationalists would clearly prefer Bharat or Hindusthan but I think the name India is more respectful of the various religious groups which live in it. It underlines a broad-minded attitude to the question of religion.

nicely, the call should not be Hindustan, because of the fact i'm an Indian and not a Hindu, and the call Hindustan supplies the impact that this land belongs to in basic terms to Hindus. It excludes hundreds of thousands of persons and that's no longer honest. as nicely, the form of India announces it to be an earthly united states; consequently, the call shouldn't want one faith as Hindustan of course does. As for changing the call to Bharat...nicely, why? different international places have an "respectable" call that isn't like what human beings call it of their close by language. China is named Zhongguo in Mandarin chinese language, Japan is named Nihon or Nippon, Germany is named Deutschland. So India could be the two India and Bharat. And it relatively is in comparison to India became thoroughly made up with the aid of the British; it comes from the Indus river. And changing the rustic's call formally to Bharat might contain extremely some crimson tape, and that i think of many Indian human beings might nevertheless confer with it as India in popular language, the way extremely some institutions in Bombay have saved that call (as an occasion, the Bombay inventory replace hasn't been replaced to Mumbai inventory replace) and a few human beings nevertheless call it Bombay. So changing it to Bharat probable does no longer make loads of a difference, different than inflicting difficulty via having to replace textbooks and maps and different documents.

because BHARAT is a hindi name and not everyone in India speaks hindi, besides there are about 286 languages in India so it will be better not to change the name to BHARAT.in hindi HINDUISTAN means land of the hindus and india is the only country that is home to almost all the religion of the world.and it would really hurt the sentiments of the people belonging to other religion.
