Build affordable housing, including one-room occupany units. Make sure there are adequate health care services, including mental health and drug/alcohol rehab. Support a living wage. Did you realize that in the vast majority of the US, minimum wage does not cover the cost of any minimal housing at all? I for one am tired of people working hard at NECESSARY jobs (making food, cleaning bathrooms) who are spit on and disrepected in favor of glorified street hustlers like the head of Goldman Sachs, who got a end of year bonus of over $50 million. If some of that went to paying waitresses and janitors so they could save some money, eat, and still pay the rent, what a better place this world would be. As it is, the vast majority of working people are one layoff or one serious illness away from homelessness. Only some don't want to deal with it.

One thing that needs to be done in some cases is to evaluate the problem one person at a time. Around thirty percent or so have mental problems. Others need a home or halfway house free from religion because some will not go to a Salvation Army place because of that very reason.

How about the Wall Street Execs that got $50-$100million Christmas BONUSES try sharing a bit of the wealth. It is so disheartening that these people are suffering in our own "back-yard" and these people think they work "so hard" that they "deserve" such exorbitant amounts of money. More than most of us will see in our life-times!

You saddo!! I bet you wouldn't be saying that if you were homeless.. They can't help it - may be if you actually thought about how you'd feel in their situation you could help them by donating that money that you were going to spend in Starbucks to them so they can get something to eat or a blanket to keep them warm?
I despise people like you who are so self-centred.

Nothing you can do. Homeless people don't usually choose to be homeless. Better watch what you say cause karma could swing your way. What would you do if you got sick and suddenly couldn't make your bills anymore? Stuff happens yanno
