There were no prequels. They simply don't exist to many of us.
They were an utter embarrassment, nothing more.
Now if only they had made movies that were as good as the Clone War cartoons, they could boast.
As it is, Lucas should hang his head in shame.

The prequel movies weren't better just different. They DID gross a hell of a lot @ the box offices all over the world They went way overboard with CGI in Ep # 2 & 3 (which wasn't available in the 70's & 80's when Episodes 4-6 came out). The prequel however explains or answers all or almost all of my lingering questions. Also exactly how Anakin was tricked into joining the dark side. I like trilogy #2 also & esp @ the end of Ep. 6 (ROTJ) when Luke sees an "apparition" of Yoda, Obi Wan Kenobi & his own "redeemed" father as Hayden Christiansen not some old man no name that never acted in anything else. Technically Anakin "died" when he became Darth Vader so I guess that's why Lucas made that change in ROTJ. I like the digitally enhanced versions of episodes 4-6 & I like the newer Episode 4 When Jabba shows up & Han Solo steps on his tail . We Even see Boba Fett (Jango Fett's clone son bounty hunter) for a second in that version.

No taint... the Rebellion era still rocks... I just treat the prequels as if they didn't exist... just like there was no Star Trek 5, Highlander 2, etc.
I love the SW expanded universe novels, but I refuse to get any of the books that take place before A New Hope... again, to avoid any stories retconned/ based on the prequels. Works great, with the exception of some parts of Tatooine Ghost. No clone stormtroopers, no midi-chlorians, no retconned Boba Fett...
Going with the trilogy and the novels afterwards makes it very easy to enjoy the trilogy and continued stories in the universe and the lives of the characters as if the prequels didn't happen.

Good question. I agree 1 & 2 were rubbish but Revenge of the Sith was pretty good. No? I thought it held up the others. But your right, Phantom and Clones did taint the series quite a bit, but once I learned how and why Vader turned (I guess I could related to his reasons) I went back and watched 4, 5 & 6 and enjoyed them even more, knowing how and why Vader is the bad *** he his.

The sequels have been and always will be the original, irreplacable classics in many, if not most people's minds. The special effects in particular were way, way ahead of their times. The prequels, while unarguably not as good (maybe even just for our whimsicality and the fact we want the sequels to be the best), did answer a lot of questions and plot holes that were missing from only having the second half of the story.
In short, they were not as good but necessary.

I dont think revenge of the sith is rubbish, the whole think in my opinion was a great work of art, solo and Luke had their own era, then kenobi and An akin had their time which i think is remarkable . Fine the 1st part was really the bomb compared to the new one, but it lets us know where it all started from.

The Star Wars films are simple fantasy adventure stories. Yes there's a difference between the original three and the recent three but if you just enjoy them for what they are, action packed adventure films set in space, and forget the hype and stop thinking so much about them you'll actually enjoy them.
Episodes 1, 2 & 3 do have their flaws but so do 4,5 & 6 it's just you're more accepting when you see those films when you're younger.
Part of the problem is people have painted an image in their heads as to what star wars is to them and when George Lucas did the new ones it was something that went against what alot of people thought was Star Wars. ..but instead of saying "Oh! That's not what I expected" people just moaned about them and refused to let go of their expectations.
I remember being disappointed when the new films started coming out. ...but after the hype had gone down I just sat and watched them without any thought and suddenly I enjoyed them more than before.
The Star Wars films aren't there to make you think deeply about them, they're just entertainment.

I believe the story line of the first three is as good, if not better, than the original films, but the heavy reliance on CGI (although the graphics were astounding) and the poor cast, really hurt them. Even Liam Neeson and Natalie Portman were unconvincing in them and yet they were great in "Schindler's List" and "The Professional". And Anikan, I'm glad he falls in lava and gets chopped up, that kid (Jake Lloyd) and Hayden Christensen are perhaps the WORST actors ever, worse than Edward Furlong in Terminator 2 even.

i still enjoy all of the star wars movies including the new ones, but i would love to see a remake of the older ones with a new cast just imagine the story lines of the older ones with the special effects of today...even though i know they would most likely flop due to being different cast member....i would still like to see it happen
