Once you are healed from the surgery itself, the only physical concerns you may have is increased vaginal dryness. Keeping K-Y jelly (or something similar) handy resolves that problem.

Your hormones are a factor. A woman's libido is certainly effected by hormone levels and when your ovaries are removed, your hormone production drops severely (not completely we have learned in recent years, but still pretty dramatically). Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has become somewhat controversial, but the more progressive OB/GYN doctors are looking to bioidentical hormone replacement therapy over the old methods that have been called into question by some studies. This type of HRT involves customized compounding of hormones based on your individual needs. It is much safer and will definitely help in the area of libido (as well as many other highly desirable benefits).

The only other potential concern is how YOU feel about having the hysterectomy. Many women find it liberating...no periods, no chance of getting pregnant, no chance of future gynecological cancers, etc. But others may be depressed at the cessation of their fertility. When you are depressed, you don't feel as "sexy" which will certainly effect your ability to have an orgasm. If that happens, counseling may be in order.

Women feel that orgasm is "different." Some say it is for the better (especially if pain prevented sexual activity prior to surgery), but sadly there are those who feel a reduction in orgasm intensity, and for others no deep orgasm ever again. The vagina can be shortened due to surgery and some women report failure to lubricate which can cause discomfort

Complications and sex after hysterectomy
Certain risks after any surgery are unavoidable; your risk of infection decreases with your physician's routine ordering of a round of antibiotics immediately following any type of surgery. Many women will experience urinary tract infections and the cutting of sensory nerves which can cause urinary incontinence. About 10% of women will require a blood transfusion due to pre- existing anemia.

Many women fear depression or other emotional changes following hysterectomy, but research shows no increase in depression occurs after hysterectomy. Some women are afraid they will lose their desire for sex, this too is untrue and your sex life should remain as pleasurable, if not more pleasurable once you are free of the cause of your hysterectomy. Removal of your ovaries may cause a decrease in sexual desire which can improve with the use of estrogen. If your ovaries remain intact you won't experience surgical menopause, although your doctor may prescribe hormonal treatment.

If vaginal dryness is a problem, your gynecologist may prescribe an estrogen cream or you should purchase one of the OTC products available such as K- Y jelly. The use of petroleum jelly is not recommended, as it can increase your risk of vaginal infection and may cause damage to condoms and diaphragms.

Hysterectomies consist of removing the reproductive organs (to which extent varies, sometimes ovaries are left behind to aid in hormone production). The clitoris...yes say it with me CLITORIS , along with the g-spot are the two main ways in which to reach climax..absolutely nothing to do with the internal reproductive organs!
