Saddam did put to death many innocent people when he was in power, whether it was right or wrong to execute him is another question. During the eight year war between Iraq and Iran, Saddam was America's good boy, the best ally in the region and was supplied (by America) all of the weapons that he used for the war against Iran and for his own political use in Iraq of course. Everyone knew at the time of Saddam killings but kept their mouths sealed and their eyes shut. What does that tell a dictator? It tells him go ahead no one really cares.
Whether Iraq will be better off without Saddam is a debatable question like the one in Yugoslavia, whether with or without Tito Yugoslavia would be a better off country to live in, (we saw what went on there after Tito's death). One thing is sure and that is that dictators have no place ruling the lives of people! Before I close, I have another question, are Iran and Saudi Arabia (speaking of a few Arab countries that are ruled by the Islamic law) dictatorships or not?
Please don't let yourselves be fooled by their so called democratic regimes; elections in these countries are geared and the WINNER IS? Always the same government, and the opposition is? Dead!
I fear that Saddam's death whether we like to believe it or not will trigger off a disastrous situation in Iraq between the Shiites and the Sunnis with Iran in the background adding on the fire all the fuel that is needed to keep it alive. The people that are now rejoicing in Iraq, are the Shiites (Saddam was a Sunni)!
I believe that in the eyes of very many Muslims, today a new martyr was born!!!
