Check the licensing requirements of your state, county, or city to find out what you must file with them to be legal. Shop around for contractor's liability insurance (your auto ins agent may also do business ins)

Join or at least check out your local chamber of commerce. They usually publish a listing of members in print & on their website, & they also will generally only refer members if someone from the community calls in looking for a reputable contractor.

Last & most important, thri the chamber you will meet many other local business folks, who not only may need your services themselves, but many of them.....like real estate agents for instance, will be a great source of referrals for you. Referred business is the best, as it is usually already sold by the influence of the person referring you! Good Luck !!
