Hi, I have 2 sons of my own. Is your baby on solids yet? if not baby probably needs to start just having a teaspoonful at night before baby goes to sleep this will fill him up - try plain baby rice first. If baby has already been weaned or if baby isn't ready then maybe baby is clingy, make sure baby is wrapped up quite well so baby feels secure, if that doesnt work try getting one of your t shirts and putting it as a sheet in baby's cot/moses basket, make sure it is tucked around the matress though, your smell could help him sleep. make sure u have a similar routine every night for example, milk, bath, story or song then bed, lie baby down in cot/moses basket before baby is asleep sit next to them so they know your there, stroke his head or something, allowing your baby to get itself to sleep - with you around of course helps them get into a deep sleep
but don't expect any of this to work over night it can take upto 2 weeks. if that doesn't work see your healthvisitor they can give you more tips.

I have a baby the same age and I am getting her to sleep by putting two teaspoons of rice cereal in her bottle. The doctor gave it the okay because she is a big girl and needs a little more than milk now... Make sure your doctor gives you the ok first. Hunger is what is keeping her up. Mone sleeps 8 hours now... before only around 3-4 at a time and she is happier..

I like Morgan's advice. Babies that young wake up to eat. However, 4 1/2 months old, she may be antcipating the interaction with you as well. Be sure that when she DOES wake at night, to keep the lights off, and the interaction as minimal as possible. Maybe move her last nap up, slowly, to an hour earlier. She's more likely to sleep all night, when her tummy is full, when she's tired, and when she comfy.
Good luck!

Okay this sounds hard and it is! But I have had to do this too with one of my boys. When he wakes up during the night, go over and gently rub his back or stomach and don't say anything. Once he is quiet or falls asleep, leave again. Continue to do this relentlessly. He will learn that for him to wake up, he is not going to get the attention that he is after nor the food every 2-3 hours. It's really hard, but you need your sleep and sanity to be the best mother to him during the day too! :0)) Good luck!

Babies this age still need to eat frequently, so you will not be able to make your baby sleep all night. If your baby sleeps for at least 5-6 hours, that is a full night's sleep :)

We held and loved them frequently, not constantly to spoil, and let them hear regular house noise, instead of trying to be hushed, so as not to wake them. They ( 5 ) to the youngest, slept through new years eve parties, and more. We were a young rowdy bunch in them days.

It's too early to get your 4.5 month child to sleep all night. Babies do it when they're ready. Not when you want them to be.
