I personally have two shops on e-bay, which i sell brand new p.c. consumables, components and peripherrals. I have been ripped off quite a few times myself, from dodgy buyers as well as sellers. So now, before i complete any transaction i always check out the feedbacks, and if in doubt .... e-mail.
unfortunately, it is only the few that make it bad for everyone else.

Same here, spent thousands and only had one slightly bad experience where the goods were a bit shoddy.
I bought a ski boat years ago that cost well into the thousands but it was from a reputable boat dealer so there was a bit of security there.
I think everyone should be forced into leaving feedback of some type, many don't bother and although i have 107 transactions 100% positive i've bought many more than that.
I was using Ebay before most people had even heard of it, i would estimate my total spend so far is over £20k!!!

A couple of hundred bucks...but only small items $10.00- 20.00.
I've given up on buying any electronics on eBay...I've learned that it's a clearing house for factory rejects and seconds. (I got stuck with a $200.00 stolen and broken Intel Pentium 4 chip, and some bad CD's and DVD's.)
I bumped into a bi-polar seller a few months ago...won a $10.00 cooking pan. Even though I paid for it by PayPal within 5 minutes after the auction closed, the seller never sent it. We communicated 5 times over 8 weeks and she kept saying that it "was shipped out today!" She could never provide a UPS tracking number...and then she said she'd refund my money...which she never did. Then she finally left ME negative feedback because she said I kept bugging her! Very weird.
I never got the item...or a refund...and eBay and PayPal (as was expected) told me to drop dead.
I've sold about 20 small items on eBay and have only had one buyer stiff me. It's a pain in the neck having to pack and mail everything and pay the fees on both ends, plus PayPal etc. I don't think many people get rich doing it, but you can get rid of some junk this way. I think a garage sale (or the dumpster) is easier though.

not much. i sold some stuff and just leave the money in paypal to use on ebay so it's not like real money.
i've never been stitched up but someone i know got stitched up for £50. i only ever buy cheap things like cds or books, i'm wary of buying expensive things.

I discovered EBAY in October this year .. prior to that, I was never interested.
that was UNTIL i decided to browse and got hooked on items that i liked.
then i spent the whole mth of October purchasing items totally around $500 (waste of my paypacket)
but ive toned down a bit (because I cant afford to miss mortgage repayments and my bills suffer because of it
so now i just browse but dont buy .. unless its really really cheap ie:under $20

Have bought over 200 things off e bay, been scammed twice, although less than £3 both times, so would class as fairly safe.

It's usually fine I buy a lot on it.....but as with everthing there's always one wanker who is there to rip you off....just watch the feedback.....and email the seller before you buy if your unsure about anything......

I never have. I can't get into it. I see it as a tagsale and can't do those either. I am a person who doesn't want what other people had.
