Using higher resolutions sometimes, as you've experience, out paces available computer RAM memory. Try to scan at lower resolutions until you find one that is acceptable for your needs. Generally speaking higher resolutions are important when you want to produce larger pictures or things like full screen wallpapers. If you are printing only to 4x6 then lower resolutions should be acceptable. If you aren't printing photos, then even lower resolutions should work great.

The definitive alternative to this all is to get more RAM so your high resolution pictures will fit into your computer's operating memory.

The memory it is talking about is not hard drive memory, the memory it is referring to is RAM, which is completely different. To view the picture the whole picture needs to be loaded into the RAM if you only have a little then a large picture wont fit in.

What program are you using to view the picture, if it is MS Paint then that software is not very good at opening large photos, try right-clicking and pressing preview instead of open.

Its talking about RAM memory, not the size of your hard drive; its probably that the pic is too big to be displayed in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. It struggles with photos that are much larger than the screen.

Out of 200 gb - what is the space alloted to C drive ? Surely C drive must be having little space thats why your problem is coming. (because my photos directory uses the free space in C drive).

The alternative method is to save the file in D or E or other in possible drive in your computer and to use it.

Saving and using photos or files in C drive is not a suggestive method, because at a later stage if you need to format the computer for any reason like virus or crash etc.... you will loose all the data files including music, photos, spreadsheets etc.

The programmes be be re-installed, but what about the files which you have gathered out of lot pain ? So it is suggested to save them in separate drive than that of C (where all programmes are to be installed)
