Very likely it is a control issue.

A lot of babies don't like to ba changed, especially after they are a little older and can get around on their own. He wants to play, not be stuck laying on his back for a few minutes (which can feel like a lifetime for a baby, especially with toys he has more interest in). My daughter is 15 months old and can be very squirmy when I change her. She would rather be walking around the house and exploring everything she can get her hands on. She doesn't cry about it anymore, but a lot of times she just won't stay still at all. You can try to distract him with a toy when you change him, or let him "help" by holding the clean diaper for you. My daughter has been better about diaper changes since I started letting her put the old diaper in the diaper pail when we are done.

He doesn't want his diaper changed. He would rather be playing, not getting a change. Try to make diaper time more fun. Sing songs, do finger plays, and talk to him about what you are doing (OK now its time to take of your yucky diaper, lets clean your bottom, ok let's put on a clean diaper, wash your hands, and lets go play). Let him hold a clean diaper while you change him.

Just a few suggestions.

He's probably trying to test his limits and see how much, if any, control he has over the situation. If my child behaved like that, one warning to stop and then if she continued I would give her a pop on the rear end. I like to give kids choices about things, but there are some things that are not negotiable, and pitching a fit over a diaper change is not something I would tolerate with my child. Be assertive and let him know you want him to stop throwing a fit. If he doesn't stop he needs a consequence.

Some baby's don't like to be changed. However, This little person can't tell you what the problem is, So I would check with the Pediatrician. It's probably nothing to worry about! But be on the safe side. Good Luck!

Hi, don't worry about it my son is now 2 and 1/2 he has been like that since being 6 months old and absolutly refuses to be toilet trained. your baby is probably very active and independent by nature that he doesnt like being made to lie down and have to stop what he's doing!
