Ooh nice question. And I don't have an answer but I do have a good guess which is the Alligator.

As far as I know there is no recorded death of a human from wolves.

You'll never believe this, but the most dangerous animal in North America is the White-tailed Deer! They kill an average of 130 U.S. citizens a year by causing car accidents.

Its Mountain Lions, however, no wild vertebrate kills most, because most Americans are still alive. Wolves and rattlesnakes are harmless as long as they aren't provoked.

I think rattlesnakes win the prize for this, followed by other venomous snakes.

actually, people die more from allergic reactions and shock from bee, hornet, or wasp stings than any of those animals.

darren is also right about the deer, but you asked for direct kills.
