Not a good idea. Even "non-alcoholic" beer is about 0.5% alcohol by volume, so you're just tempting yourself. Plus the (horrible) taste will make you crave the real thing.

Well, it doesn't contain alcohol but was that they're drink of choice when they were drinking? If it was it's probably not a good idea. It tastes very similar to beer that has alcohol in and could increase cravings for alcoholic beer. There are alot of other beverages to drink. Why take the chance?

They can do whatever they like (as alcoholics tend to do anyway, or at least they do it if they are not on a 12 Step program), but it will keep the mental switch turned 'ON', which is a crying shame if the physical compulsion had already left them.

Personally, I don't believe that any recovering alcoholic who still wants to drink beer, even if it is non-alcoholic, has fully grasped the Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over alcohol and that our lives had become unmanageable.

I am one and I've been sober since February.Firstly do anything you can to remain sober if that is your aim. I found that drinking non-alcoholic lager just teased me! I was on a drug called antabuse for the first few months of my recovery and if you drink on them it can be fatal..My uncles wife got a couple of bottles of non-alcoholic wine. I drunk 2 glasses of it and I ended up in a&e ! Apparently there are still remnants that are left in the drink because it's initially made as an alcoholic drink and then most of the alcohol is removed. but unless you are on antabuse you dont have to worry about that..Sometimes when I'm out and I dont want to explain why I dont drink I either buy a calibre or a lemonade in a tall glass with ice and lemon(people assume theres vodka in it)or just tell them your on antibiotics..If it's just the taste that you miss I think this will pass, try j20's as they taste real good...anyway good luck and feel free to email me if you think I could help

Why tempt the fates? When I smell a cigarette, I want to smoke. Who knows. I quit a meth addiction over 10years ago by moving to a place where I knew nobody. It was a s simple as being alone for a while. Alcohol is so much harder because it it socially acceptable, not to mention legal.

why bother? i mean you know you've got a problem problem right? so why you would you want to tempt fate? all it takes is one person to clock you with a bottle of beer in your hand and buy you a regular one without realising youre on alcohol free and before you know it your off the wagon. ofcourse this could easily happen if youre out drinking coke and people thin k youre on vodka and coke but hey if your mates are decent they'll know youre in recovery and stand by you right?

i nshort its not worth the risk in my opinion, stick to coke or lemonade

They can BUT it won't be long before that 0% increases to 2% then 5% then before you now it your back on 40% - so JUST WHAT IS THE POINT - but for you to be asking that you have that doubt in your head already - just like vegetarians and thier stupid veggie burgers. Not worth it bud.

It isn't considered a relapse by most, but it is an extremely bad idea because it can trigger the desire to drink the real thing.

in theory yes, but try something else instead as you may then want a real beer
