I was hostess to a Christmas open house and received a number of hostess gifts.
Do I send thank you notes for these gifts?

Yes you should. It tells the party who gave it to you that you do appreciate it and how thoughtful of them to give you a gift. But if it was someone I see everyday I would just thank them personally. That's it.

if you wrote an invitation to your party, then i would suggest sending a "thank you for attending" card with an additional note in the card thanking them for the gift.

if it was a very informal invitation, ( word of mouth ) a simple phone call will sufice. but don't forget to include a thankyou to anyone who brought gifts.
