Yes it should be a felony.
Letting people drop out of high school, no matter how old they are, teaches them that sort of philosophy in life--"Oh it's too hard, I'll drop out." doesn't work anymore. They'll find out quickly that everyone above a fast food level wants a graduation diploma or GED, and without either of those things they may very well end up flipping burgers for a living, for a long long time :)

To give a student who chooses to drop out a felony is not fair. There are just some students who function better once they have experienced some of the hardships of life. These hardships tend to drive students back to finish their High School education and for some the hard experiences act as a catalyst to get them through college.
To answer the question it should not be be a felony for students to drop out of school.

A felony is a serious crime, like murder, rape, burglary. It's a crime against someone else. Dropping out of school is not a crime against someone else--it's *potentially* something one does to oneself.
Not everybody needs a high school diploma to get far in life. There are all kinds of successful people who dropped out of school. The school system is designed to support and create one type of person--there are far too many kids who just don't fit with the system and are not getting much out of being there. The stuff you learn in high school is, for the most part, not even relevant to most jobs out there. While one could argue that the thinking skills that go along with it help one's development, if somebody doesn't want to be at school, then they're not going to be doing what they need to to benefit from it.

I don't think so. A felony is a serious charge. Maybe the best thing would be counseling before they are allowed to drop out. There are reasons where I think it's permissible for a child to drop out. For ex: Tragedies where the child may have to go to work for the family. Why should they be punished further?

I dont think you should charge someone so blatantly on a decision made for many reasons...if one feels that they need to drop out, they shall be punished for it ten fold when they cannot make enough to pay the bills =D
it will all come back to them in the end...so I think the justice system can leave this one alone
