I know that Saddam was responsible for many people's deaths during his reign in Iraq, but I do not think he should have been killed. He was 69 years old and I think they should have just locked him in a jail cell for the remainder of his life. I don't think his health was the best, so I am sure he wouldn't have lived much longer. Actually, sentencing Saddam to death by hanging is sort of the easy way out. In a jail cell he would have had to suffer a bit more and get to think about what he has done.

No, it was not right. First, taking any mortal being's life is wrong. Secondly, the whole affair was a sordid, political charade. the US has been clearly documented to have used him in the past when it suited US purpose, and there is a long historical list of no less evil dictators that the US supported simply to gain a vote in the UN, obtain an air force base or have them serve as surrogates to massacre populist movements.
Just honestly ask yourself, who, in the end, has more blood on their hands, Bush or Saddam?

YES!! Saddam was a Hitler of this generation. he killed soooo many people. After killing millions, he lived a comfortable life as a president. he never thought about all those who had lost their families. I think he deserved what he got. He would have had to pay for his crime some time or the other. Today was the day!!!

It was timed with their holy days to stave off retaliation. I think it was rushed to prevent him from talking about his deals with the USA that got him into this mess. The trial was over a bunch of Shia killed for trying to assassinate him. He was never tried for the Kurd gassing that was originally blamed on Iran and the Ayatollah by the USA. If he had been left alive he would have started talking about all the dirty deals he was in with the USA prior to Kuwait and Gulf War 1.

Why is it right to punish the guilty?

I don't think anyone has the right to take a life. Revenge is not an excuse. Fortunately it wasn't my choice .

Please understand, if I was confronted by some guy with a knife and I had a gun . . . . . . I'd use it. That doesn't mean it would be right, just that it would be effective. It seems to me that people often confuse 'right' with 'effective'.
