I live in NYC and on my subway ride back home today (I was alone), while I was reading my book two black men yelled "John Liu! John Liu!" until I looked up. And when I did, they weren't looking at me but looked at each other and went on their conversation. And FYI, John Liu is a congressman in Flushing, Queens, NY.
If two white men were shouting "Al Sharpton!" at a black guy this would be a racial slur. So is this considered a racial slur? This happened late at night and I didn't say anything back and I wish I had done so.
So is this racism, or is racism only when whites call blacks names?
And BTW, this happens frequently to Asian men in NYC. This is not my first time.

Speelliosis... You asked if I feel racist if I called black people "black". If the black men called me "Asian", i'm fine with that. Read what I have written before answering. If I were to call black men "Al Sharpton" or "Jessie Jackson", I'd be called racist. Being called "Al Sharpton" does not describe a race, and neither does "John Liu". You, Speelliosis, get a minus from me.
