What Sherzade said peace, love, understanding, tolerance and I will add devoted and dignified
Socinian F you are completely misrepresenting.....first off the non believer he refers to are the pagans they are at war with. The bible is full of those saying to avoid those that are God's enemies, Christians even use it today so mute point since it is not directed to Christians or Jews the one saying you do have that deals with anything towards people that are not trying to killing them you lose the context it was do not associate with them if they are leading you into evil or away from Islam. Here is other things muhammad said about other religions and their unity with Islam:
And there are, certainly, among the people of the book, those who believe in God and in that which has been revealed to you, and in that which has been revealed to them, humbling themselves before God. They do not sell the Verses of God for a little price, for them is a reward with their Lord. 3:199
Say: "O people of the book: Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but God, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides God. 3:64
Verily! Those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in God and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve . 2:16
We sent forth Noah and Abraham, and bestowed on their offspring prophethood and the Scriptures. Some were rightly guided, some were evil doers. After them We sent other apostles, and after those Jesus son of Mary. We gave him the Gospel, and put compassion and mercy in the hearts his followers. 57:27
AND the infidel thing that is getting really old because INFIDEL is not even of Arabic origin it is a Latin word, it is not in their language. and the definintion of Infidel is actually to be against Christianity.....look it up.

Real Islam is not what people say or think, wether they say it is peace or they say it is war and killing with a little peace here and there. Islam is defined by the what you find in the Koran, and the example of the Prophet. The prophet of Islam whose name is Mohammed did go himslef on killing sprees and raids to rob people. Of course he and his followers felt that what they did was justifed and say it was becasue this or that, because we were at war with this tribe and they did this so we did it back to them and other common excuses. But how can that be called peace?
When compared with Jesus Christ who never did such things but condemned them becaudse he was truly spiritual, whil eMohamed was not. Mohamed fought for the things of this world , for money, for wives for power, while Jesus let himself be killed in order to go to heaven and be with God. Who is the spiritul one?
Spirit is concerned with spirit things and does not love the things in the physical realm so much but gives them up, that is why Christ taught that Christians are pilgrims in the world and not to fight and kill. While Mohamed le dby example , himsle fchopping peoples heads off and bragging later. this is not opinion, how could I dare to make that up, this is written in their books, which they now hide, because they are afraid of what pelple will think of them. What does it matte rif Mohameed once in a whil esaid something nice or religious if he went around killing people and encouraging his followere to do so?
This is in the Koran. He also taught that Christians and Jews were perverted wrong religions and Islam is the true right one, so that Muslims are superior to all and therefor e when disagreement comes they have the right to kill them. This is in the Koran.
These things that I have written are not the only emphasis in the Koran but they are a part of it and that is why Muslim men are not averse to violence and killing. One thing for sure is that it is not the religion Jesus taught, but they have and claim Jesus taught different from the bible, so they call Jesus a prophet but that is a trick without telling you that they change all his teachings to fit the Koran which came 600 years later than Jesus.
The following are quotes from the beautiful religion of Peace
One is offered to convert to islam- if one refuses they are considered the Enemy of islam and therefore to be KILLED.Christians and jews can pay protection money as a mercy from allah or else they can be killed to.
Examples from the Quaran;
The Verse Of The Sword from Al-Tawbah
Fight and slay the pagans (infidels) wherever ye find them, and seize them,
beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem of war." - Sura 9:5
"Prophet, make war on unbelievers and hypocrites, and deal rigorously
with them." - Sura 9:73
"Let not the unbelievers think they will ever get away. They have not
the power to do so. Muster against them all the men and cavalry at
your command, so that you may strike terror into the enemy of Allah
and your enemy... Prophet, (Mohammed) rouse the faithful to arms!
If they (the non-Muslims) incline to peace (accept Islam) make
peace with them." - Sura 8:59
"If they reject your judgement, know that it is Allah's wish to scourge
them for their sins." - Sura 5:49
"Believers (Muslims), take neither Jews nor Christians to be your
friends: they are friends with one another.
Whoever of you seeks their friendship shall become one of their number,
and Allah does not guide (those Jewish and Christian) wrong-doers." - Sura 5:51
Sample from Jesus New Testament
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"
Remeber anything any so called Christian does that is wrong , the bible is against him, but with the religion of peace when they do this wrong then they are truly following their koran. When they are peaceful they are not.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
Dear Cathy you must come to terms with the truth.
Are you familiar with the doctrine of abrogation in Islam and what is the accepted jurisprudence on it?
It says that the earlier verse are abrogated by the later verses.Muslim scolars could not expalin the contradiction in the Koran either, in one place you have a slightly tolerant verse and in another you have a intolerant one. But they are decided that the later ones which are the violent ones, which include the verse of the sword, abrogate the earlier ones .
There is also the authortative understaning that the peaceful ones were the result of Mohammeds weakness in Mecca, therefore he made treaties, with the Koresh. Later when he had power he broke the treay unlwafully and said Allah gave him permission and that is when the sword verse were revealed.
You must recognise that Isalm or any religion for that matter is not defined by your feelings or how you practice it.Islam defines Islam, the religion doesn't follow you,you follow it. That being said , Islam contains the verse up above and many more I could quote so stop trying to change it to be an equivalnet to modern political correctness. I fyou believe it, embrace it, don't change it that is the most displeasing to all, incluiding allah if you believe it.

Islam is religion of peace. It is a community. But like in any organized religion there are some extremists who are making a good thing to look bad.

Where Did Allah Come From?
by Robert A. Morey
© 1996 Research and Education Foundation
Muslims worship a god by the name of Allah. They also give him ninety-nine other names. The question that naturally arises is who or what is this Allah? Where did the Muslims derive their ideas of Allah's nature and attributes?
Historical Source of Islam
Historians, linguists, and archeologists have dug into this question for over a century. Various archeological digs in Arabia and throughout the Middle East have uncovered the answer: Islam is a modern version of the ancient fertility religion of the moon god. Once this is grasped, the rise and history of Islam becomes clear.
The Arab conquests were made possible because the central powers in the Middle East had exhausted themselves in wars against each other. They were not able to fight off wave after wave of Arab armies which subdued entire nations with merciless slaughter, rape and plunder.
Conquering Armies
The Arabs destroyed some of the wonders of the ancient world such as the world famous library in Alexandria, Egypt, They destroyed many ancient churches and synagogues. Anthropologists have recorded how the Arabs destroyed the cultural heritage of any nation which fell under their sword.
Who were these Arabs? They obviously were not Christians because they destroyed churches and murdered priests wherever they went. Obviously, they were not Jews because they persecuted Jews without pity. This is seen today in their hatred of Israel and the many wars and acts of terrorism waged against Jews throughout the world.
If the Arab hordes which swept over the ancient world were not Christians or Jews, then what were they? They were pagans who worshipped a pagan god called Allah and followed pagan rites which were practiced in Arabia long before the religion of Islam evolved.
Islam Denies the Trinity
These facts of history reveal that Islam does not worship the same God worshipped by Christians. Why?
Christians worship one God in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. But Islam denies the Holy Trinity and worships a different deity called Allah who is not a Father and who has no son.
Since the religion found in the Bible teaches the Trinity, then it does not take a Ph.D. to see that Islam did not come from the Bible. Thus it is not the religion of the biblical prophets, apostles or Jesus.
Pagan Origins
Islam's origins have been traced back by scholars to the ancient fertility religion of the worship of the moon god which was always the dominant religion of Arabia. The moon god was worshipped by praying toward Mecca several times a day, making an annual pilgrimage to the Kabah which was a temple of the moon god, running around the Kabah seven times, caressing an idol of a black stone set in the wall of the Kabah, running between two hills, making animal sacrifices, gathering on Fridays for prayers, giving alms to the poor, etc.. These were pagan rites practiced by the Arabs long before Muhammad was born.
The Crescent Moon
What religion today practices the pagan rites of the moon god? Islam! This explains why the crescent moon is the symbol of Islam. It is placed on top of mosques and minarets and displayed on hats, flags, rugs, amulets and even jewelry. Every time you see the Muslim symbol of a crescent moon, you are seeing the ancient symbol of the moon god.
Denial Not a Refuge
Does the average Muslim know that he is worshipping a moon god? No. Does he know why the crescent moon symbol sits on top of his mosque? No. Is he shocked and perhaps angered at these facts of history? Yes. But can mere denial or angry threats refute the fact that Islam is nothing more than a modern version of the ancient religion of the moon god Allah? No. The average Muslim has been kept in the dark by the Mullahs and Imams who would lose their power if the truth ever got out.
Worship the True God
Dear Muslim friend, instead of worshipping a false moon god called Allah, you should worship the God of the Patriarchs, prophets, and apostles. This one true God is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Read the New Testament for it is the true Word of God.

I think the real Islam is concerned with peace, love, devotion to God, struggle against the passions, and a firm belief in divine providence.
As for the guy who gets his source material from Chick comic books - what do you expect?
Jack Chick doesn't tell you that the Arabic Allah and the Hebrew Eloah were one and the same - the same scholars who concluded that Allah was a pagan moon god are the same scholars who concluded that the Hebrews worshiped a pagan moon god.

Islam is peace.
A religion where a person can feel peace in his/her heart, peace with other and peace with the world...
Unfortunately a lot are just applying the teaching of Islam in a very wrong way thus suicide bombers, extremists etc are born.
Islam is simple... sent from God to all human kind...Not just Arabs.

In the name of God, Most Gracious Most Merciful
Before I proceed with my answer, I would like to strongly recommend that you watch this documentary made by PBS entitled Islam - Empire of Faith. Kindly visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyNeULY4E1I
God-willing, you'll see what Islam is all about, and what Islam can do if its teachings are followed closely.
Islam is the last Abrahamic religion. Its central Prophet is Muhammad (peace be upon him). Its holy book, al-Quran/Koran is a book of God, containing 100% words of God, undistorted for 1400 years up until now, and until the end of time (as God has vowed to preserve its authenticity).
Meanings of the holy Quran must not be taken or understood literally as it can be extremely misleading. Muslims have the authentic books of the Prophet's Sunnah (prophetic traditions) and the works of prominent Imams, i.e. Muslim scholars of Islam who are religious successors of the Prophet to guide us in understanding the holy Quran and the Sunnah as they are supposed to be understood.
Muslims believe that God did send prophets and messengers to every nations since Adam, most notably the 25 Messengers of God (peace be upon them all) which every single Muslim must know by heart. Muslims also recognise Jesus Christ the son of Mary (peace be upon him) as the Messiah while Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the best of creation is believed to be the seal of prophets.
Alongside with that, Muslims also believe in previous revelations/books of God, most notably the Gospel of Jesus, Torah of Moses, Psalms of David, Scrolls of Abraham, and so on.
Muslims believe in the existence of supernatural beings; for instances, angels being the loyal obedient servants or God and devils (Satan) being the disobedient ones.
Muslims also believe in the life of the Hereafter, the Day of Judgment, the second coming of Jesus, and Predestination.
E-mail me for any enquiries. God-willing, I'll help you the best I can.
God knows best.
Peace and Love.
