It's possible, since certain cancers do seem to run in families. However, skin cancer is also the most preventable: Stay out of the sun, and don't use sunlamps or tanning beds. If you must be outside, use 40 SPF or better sunblock.

It's very hard to tell whether you will as well have skin cancer. Yes it runs in your family but still there is possibility of you not being affected by it or else you can go for further check up, to be diognised of any symbol that may lead to it early so that you get to know your relationship with cancer.
Happy New Year.

Well, you didn't way which kind of skin cancer runs in the family and that may affect the answer, as well as by what you mean by "runs in the family". You mean your parents? cousins, 3 generations?. but in general I would say that it means that there is a skin type that runs in your family that is suseptible to it and you need to take extra care not to over expose yourself to sunburns without protection: sun blocker. Your line of work (or theirs) may have exposed them to chemicals or had them outside a lot. It means you need to be extra careful about bringing any skin abnormalities to your doctors attention: moles that change shape or color. Talk to your doctor about it. A skin specialist or oncologist would be preferable, though your general practitioner could give you general information. My father has skin cancer and he worked outside a lot. He has it under control but must go in periodically to get checked and have any new suspicious spots checked. A friend of mine got the more serious, melanoma and had treatments for it. He's fine now but he too goes in for periodic checks..

Not necessarily, just stay away from the sun if you are too light skinned.
