You need to be more descriptive. What are you thinking when you have this "mental jolt?" You may be going through depression and may want to go get a check up with your doctor. When a person is depressed one of the symptoms is fuzzy thinking. For example, everything feels like a dream and events/things do not feel real. Don't worry too much, you are not going insane because if you are you won't know it. Stay positive, go get a check up with your doc, and be patient. Things will work out.

I've been losing my grasp on reality for quite a while, since about the end of '95. I spend WAY too much time on my computer because reality just isn't for me, I used to be able to tell the difference, but now it kind of blends together in a mush of "hunh?"
I also started having memories that aren't mine about 5 years ago, All this junk used to really bother me, but I've come to terms with losing whats left of my mind. I'm not a weirdo or anything, but If you want to talk, my email is open, I've been a psych patient since I was six, maybe I could give you some insight from a long term perspective

Pattie -- It sounds like panic attacks to me. They're very scarey, often your heart will race and you'll be overcome with a sense of dread. My mom had them.

You are not going insane. My mom started taking Klonopin, a long-acting anti-anxiety drug, and Prozac, and she got better pretty quickly. She had started to not want to go out because she was afraid she'd have one when she was out and about. This can be really debilitating.. Let me give you some links, and if this sounds like you, discuss it with your doctor.

~It doesn't mean your crazy, it could just be stress. You really need to talk to a doctor and tell him exactly how you've been feeling. Don't leave anything out or you'll be cheating yourself. Doctors aren't there to make judgements about you, they're there to help you.
Good luck~
