That little tongue is musle pure and simple. Due to the uses of The tongue it must be musle and not bone. The tongue is used for eating and for speach. In eating the tongue must be flexible to move the food in the mouth. In speaking the tongue works with the vocial chords to produce language that is discerable. If it was bone whole or in part it could not do these task.

It has one at its very base, called the hyoid bone, which is not connected to any other bones of the body.

It would not make any sense for there to be bones within the tongue itself. They could only serve to make it less useful.
