Why do guys say "it's not you it's me" when they break up?

Two reasons.
1. Something about you has recently been discovered that drives him out of his mind, in a bad way, and the guy is trying not to hurt your feelings. Something like...singing the Barney song during sex, or you have a laugh that can break stone.

2. He has realized that he has a short coming that he doesn't want found out, and this hasty retreat to keep you from finding out. Something like... he passes out when he thinks about kissing, or there's a wierd allergy he has.

3. He's met a girl who is too good to let get away, and he is 'letting you down easy' so that if the new girl doesn't work out...he can try to come back after realizing that he cannot live without you.

I think that a guy doesnt want his love to be hurt.. atleast for me. When I love someone even if I break up for silly reasons of her.. I would still want her to be happy throughout her life.

I would take all the pains and give are peace of mind. Even if she needs me after that I would be there for help.

I depends on person to person to take a break up as a new beginning to life..!!

Well if you rethink your question it answers itself--OK still don't get it--Here goes--breaking up is not different than anything else we do--its a personal decision to change life to make our life happy--so all anyone is saying when they break up is this all about me and my own happiness--that you didn't cause it --and frankly its honest ---I would rather have someone leave me alone than string me along and not really be happy--

Because they are pussy's who can't be honest about why. They don't want to hurt you or give some kind of closure. I just tell woman straight out why I'm leaving so at least they know and can either learn from it to better themselves or tell me to go %#% myself cause thats the way it is. LOL I mostly get the 2nd response.

because he is being a real man and telling you the truth ... because he knows it really him with the problem and not you because he is being eating up inside by wut he really is ,and thats being confused , by his feelings he is struggling with inside and doesnt have anything or anyway to explain it better to you,but if he is telling you this you say "your right its you,not me " throw it back in his face and perhaps he will see it himself and make the right desicion for both of you and in reality in the long run it is the best for you , because if he cant figure out a problem without hurting you in the process then he is still imature

Cause they don't have an excuse to give you for the breakup! So they blame it on themselves to make you feel better! It's so lame.... n
